Drum solos are trips that we make or stories we tell ... In this video left, I’m performing samba batucada using snare drum and tons, with left foot playing the classic phrase of bossa nova in the cowbell.
"Looks Like December" has an arrangement (video below) I made for voice and big ensemble. This version has English lyrics by Jobim himself (from original “Anos Dourados”), besides Richard DeRosa on drums and Jeff Kunkel on piano.
Over the past four years, I lived in New York area, watching unforgettable concerts, meeting musicians from many countries and played in several Brazilian clubs. I was playing and giving workshops in cities and universities in different U.S. states, schools and various jazz clubs in Canada, Germany and Holland.
Back in Brazil last year (2010), it comes to my mind so many different people I met, their cultures so far apart from each other and how it united around something in common when I played "Brazilian music" to them.

In Canada, in addition to gigs, the quartet Don Thompson, Marcelo Gomes, Reg Schwager and I recorded the CD "Snow Samba" one afternoon in Toronto. I went there to present a workshop of my book at IAJE (International Association for Jazz Education) and had also the pleasure of playing with these musicians.
